Public Involvement
The 14th Street NW Corridor Transportation Study will rely heavily on public participation. The public
involvement process will include residents, ANCs and other stakeholders in and around the study area, and
will help the Study Team document the community's concerns and recommendations. In addition, the public will
have an opportunity to review and comment upon all Study findings and recommendations, thus playing a crucial
role in the decision making process.
To fully engage residents, elected leaders, community leaders, art community, business groups, retail operators,
and other 14th Street NW stakeholders, the Study will include public involvement venues such as meetings, design
charrette (please see the details under Public Meetings and Schedule). Each event will be announced and advertised
in advance using meeting notices, pamphlets, and other reasonable mechanisms to communicate project information
and obtain community comment. In addition, this study web site will post the schedule, all public meeting
minutes, fact sheets, and study updates and progress reports.
There will be four public meetings. The first will outline the project, discuss existing conditions, and develop
a shared vision of the future of the corridor. The second public meeting will focus on potential options in transportation
and streetscape design, both short- and long-term, to achieve the shared vision of the corridor. The participants will be
engaged to express their preferences for a variety of options. The third public meeting will discuss draft findings
and recommendations, while the fourth public meeting will present the final report of the study, including final recommendations.

More than fifty people gathered together in the recently renovated Source (formerly Source Theater) on June 20, 2007,
not for a show but for a public meeting to share their visions for the 14th Street corridor. After presentation of
existing conditions and concepts, the meeting attendees were asked to provide three vision priorities and three
challenges for the corridor. The results show that top three vision priorities are arts/entertainment, retail,
and bike/pedestrian orientation. For the details of the meeting, click here for a meeting summary, meeting minutes,
and meeting presentation.

midcity DOG DAYS (July 4th, 2007)
As part of the public outreach, the Planning Team presented the 14th Street Study and distributed
flyers announcing the upcoming Public Meeting at the Second Annual Development Showcase
(produced by the Cardozo Shaw Neighborhood Association at 1436 U Street, NW.).
Despite the heat, many residents came out and engaged in a dialogue about existing conditions and
desired improvements along the corridor.
